Meet Cody Summerville
After earning my bachelors degree at Oklahoma Christian University, I moved to Austin in 2014 to attend graduate school at UT.
I am an early childhood program specialist at the Texas Education Agency. Through my role, I manage our state’s Preschools Development Grant, support the development of teacher certification exams, and provide technical assistance to school districts to help improve the quality of prekindergarten-2nd grade. Prior to joining the agency, I taught kindergarten in Pflugerville ISD. Not only is early childhood education my job, but it is also my passion and hobby! Outside of work, I am very active in the early childhood community at the local, state, and national level by serving in various leadership roles within the National Association for the Education of Young Children and its state and local affiliates.
Outside of Early Childhood, I like to visit the central library, hike and swim in the green belts around town, and meet friends for happy hour.
Kim Kofron and I have known each other for several years. She invited me to attend UCC with her and her family. She knew I was in search of a new church home that was open and affirming. Prior to coming to UCC, I was a member of another denomination. As I grew in my faith and in who I was meant to be, that denomination no longer felt like home.
Some of my favorite childhood memories are spending hours after school and on the weekends playing in the creek behind our neighborhood with my siblings. We would build dams with rocks, swim, and play hide and go seek for hours. It’s a miracle that none of us were ever seriously hurt!
